Gerald George (Jerry, Dr. G.) is an arts educator / administrator and artist, with a very broad skill set and a good deal of experience.
Dr. George has a background in higher education, and theatre production, and management. He has full-time and part-time teaching experience at two and four-year institutions, and has taught across the theatre curriculum including general education and studio-based courses. He currently teaches Speech Communication and K-12 Arts Integration, but has also taught has taught in other disciplines including Film, Philosophy, and Art History.
Outside of the classroom, his theatre experience includes work in traditional and non-traditional stagings of straight plays, musical theatre, and theatre for young audiences. He has, over the years, worked in diverse capacities including stage direction, design, technical direction, performance, stage management, production management, and non-profit theatre management. From this base of experience he has gained solid insight into scheduling, contract writing and supervision, budget management, strategic and project planning and management, staffing, policy writing, board relations, program design and implementation, and general troubleshooting.
A Marine veteran, member of the Marine Corps League, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, and the Fleet Reserve Association, Dr. George has held multiple offices and is currently the Commander of Omaha Beach Chapter #7, Disabled American Veterans. He has also been active in the community having served three-term member on the City of Bowie Arts Committee – an advisory body to the City Council.
